2020 Summer Curriculum

Language Arts

Listening, speaking, read aloud, shared reading, guided reading, independent reading and phonics (for primary grades)

Science/Social Studies

​

Science and Social Studies subjects are integrated through read aloud, literacy and math subjects.

Math

Curriculum is based on the Math Georgia Standards of Excellence and is taught through manipulative, demonstrations and problem solving through technology. We want to focus on teaching students to become mathematical problem solvers to use math in their daily lives!

Enrichment Classes

STEM/CODING:

Students learn the fundamentals of programming, including syntax, code commenting, control structures and overall readability. The course also provides a basic introduction to JavaScript.

Life Skills

Cooking, sewing, healthy habits, time management, repair/maintenance, etc.

P.E., Art, Music

PSAT

The PSAT test gives students a sense of the format, question types, content, and time limits that they will encounter on the SAT. Additionally, the PSAT test serves as a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship program and the DUKE Tip program. Our 6th-8th grade classes will focus on grade level subject as well as daily PSAT practice and tips on improving score.

Reading List

A compilation of fiction and nonfiction books will be sent out at the beginning of summer camp to encourage students to get a head start on books that will be read during the school year. We promote a classroom climate that encourages literacy!

Language Classes (ESOL or Korean)

Students are required to enroll in either Korean or ESOL class. Students will be placed in their individualized levels or proficiency in either language

PRESCHOOL

​

2 yr old

Designed to introduce children to numbers 1 through 20 and the alphabet, one letter a week.

Dramatic Play, and Housekeeping centers are used to reinforce social skills such as listening and sharing and to promote creativity.

​

3 yr old

Letter recognition and phonics are taught, along with one letter each week. Also taught are different colors, shapes, and basic concepts in math and science.

Using hands on materials to reinforce phonics centers play a big role to teach weekly themes and beginning sight words in a fun and dynamic way.

​

4 yr old / Pre-K

Basic concepts of Pre-K math, sight words and recognizing upper& lower case letters, phonics and more are taught.
